Excalibur Girls is the pet project of a mother, a daughter, and best friends between the two, with overlapping skills and complimentary aesthetics.
Leslie Berget (age debatable; quite possibly immortal) is a designer, sometimes stylist, sometimes martial artist, with an eye for perfection and a penchant for craftsmanship. For the past thirty-eight years Leslie’s garments have been favorites of friends—her costumes gracing the stages of everything from parties to off-broadway musical productions. From handmade soaps, to cakes, to dresses, each of her works is an exercise in attention to detail. Says Leslie “I have had an interest in alternatives to mainstream fashion from the time I designed my first costume for myself at the age of twelve. The Victorian and Edwardian Eras have influenced my personal style. I’ve always preferred a more romantic and elegant take on fashion than what retail fashion has had to offer me. I love making my work and our visions become a reality.”
Aurora Berget (aged twenty) is a software developer by her academic record, an odd profession for a designer. “When I was growing up, aside from a strong desire to be a princess, I wanted to be a video game designer acting both as head of costume conceptual design, and of the programming team itself. It satisfied my urge to create clothing that defied the bounds of psychics. I suppose that explains it. I’m an odd thing—a minimalist in a very fluffy fashion. I have preference for the sleek, meticulously fitted lines of menswear, with rich and subtle ornamentation to add interest. I’d like to bring the essence of menswear to a very feminine fashion. This line has been my dream for six years. It is the world I see behind closed eyelids, and I want to make it available to as many people and body-types as possible without skimping on the details.” As for her sewing, she will only have it said that she takes after her mother.
